The Hasmas Mountain
It is said that long, long time ago, on Earth lived the race of the Giants. They were huge, and a race of warriors, and they were created by the Gods to defend the Earth from Evil.
Among them, the oldest and wisest of them was a Giant named Hasmas. He was the leader of the giants and he had two sons, Mures and Olt, and more handsome and strong warriors were never seen in the whole race of the giants.
And one day the raven came to Hasmas, to bring him dire news: the Evil was coming, to go deep under the mountains to the place where the axis of the wheel of the Earth was, to stop the Earth from spinning and destroy all life. With a great cry, Hasmas sent all the ravens to gather the giants and prepare them for the battle.
And the battle between the giants and the spirits of the Evil lasted for seven days, and when the Sun rose on the morn of the eigth day Hasmas was the only one left alive. All the other giants were dead, their bodies covering the Carpathian mountains - but the Earth was safe, for the giants had destroyed all the spirits of the evil.
Hasmas himself was gravely wounded, and, tears streaking along the creases of his old face, he wandered among the bodies of his dead brethren looking for his sons. And he found them, both dead, sitting back to back, as they had fought, so they had died, each brother protecting the other.
And there he sat, Hasmas, and took in his lap the heads of his sons, and bitter tears flowed from his eyes and dropped on the forehead of his sons. And there he sat, crying, all day and all night. And when the dawn came, lo! for Hasmas was a giant nomore, he was a mountain, and from his lap two great rivers sprung, the Olt and the Mures. And even nowadays, the peak that was the giant sits on top of the range of the Carpathians, and from the depths, the Mures and the Olt run swiftly towards the plains.
