All along, from many of my readers, from people I have met and discussed with , from various groups as well as from friends, the same questions keep coming all the time: why is there so little material published about your tradition? Why is there so little published, and of what is published there is barely anything in English? Is there any material I can study? I can only find some vague materials about gypsy witchcraft in Romania and that is about it? Well, my tradition is very esoteric in nature. From the ancient times, there are very few writings or inscriptions that have been deciphered (the Dacians are famous for their mysteries). My tradition passes its most important teachings orally, to certain people only. While most of the teachings of what is called in the West "kitchen magic" or "little magic" CAN be passed on in writing, especially the herbal medicine/healing part and some protection rituals, the deeper you go in the more powerful part of the craft, the harder it becomes to find any kind of information made public, or to find correct information. But do not worry, that practically happens in all traditions. And the "little magic" is not something to be easily dismissed.
Another question that keeps coming back: Why is your tradition (and quite a few other traditions) so rigid about rituals, forms and shapes, the words to be said "just so", pronunciation, clothing, cleaning of the space, ceremony, fasting and all these irritating "do-s and don't-s"? Why not do it the way you feel like doing it, so what if you don't do it EXACTLY that way? Sheesh! Well, that would be mostly because if you want to have a certain result to what you are doing, then you have to do it properly. One cannot obtain a pyramid effect without first building a proper perfect tetrahedron, right? Do not forget that ultimately magic is wielding certain energies and forces. In order to be able to gather these energies, to make them work their flows to your purpose, the correct shape is very important: the circle focuses the energy and contains and protects, but it HAS to be a nice, round, regular circle encompassing everybody in it, and people can't "lift" it and pass back and forth once it's raised. A chant or a worded spell, by the mere vibrations of certain words/sounds, gathers and shapes these forces. The same spell in a certain language, if translated in another language or mispronounced by someone who is not well versed in the original language, will not have the proper effect. The ancient Romans weren't speaking Latin with an English accent, you know. If a specific spell requires a hazelnut wand and to burn monkshood as offering incense, do not try to find substitutes for these just because in the area you live in there are no hazelnuts growing and you have no plant store that sells monkshood. Instead, try to find another spell, one that would requires paraphernalia you CAN obtain, for the same purpose. There is a reason you have to draw certain symbols in the air with your athame in a certain way. If you don't, those symbols will be useless, and THAT is definitely something you don't want if you need a strong protection for dangerous work. "I'm too tired to take a full bath with plants and stuff before doing this, so I'm going to take a short shower, I'll still be clean, right?". You will be clean, but not able to do what you have set up to do. If you will babble your summonings to the four corners, and mess up the good-byes, don't wonder why none of the works you have tried is coming to fruit, but instead, you keep having bad luck. A group Full Moon ritual, if not done when the Moon is full, but a few days earlier or later, just because it's more convenient for people to meet on a Saturday at 5 pm instead of a Wednesday at 11 pm, becomes useless. Might as well just throw in a couple steaks on the grill and bring out the beer - it will be a much better use of your time. |
